I was thinking of offering some software free-of-charge to small businesses, but was unsure of how to monetize it. What kind of options are out there to capitalize on it other than selling the software outright? Position the software in hopes of taking up some of the market to get bought out by a larger company? Consult and make custom solutions for clients by and large? Donations?

Does the business software offer more protection?

I'm starting another small business and am looking for some software that creates customer and mailing lists. If possible I would like one that can be integrated into other business software as the outlook for this business is very good and huge growth is a pretty sure thing. Does anybody out there have some suggestions on this type of software? I would greatly appreciate any guidance you can offer. Thank you for your time.
